A Lesser Known Story From The Ramayana

In Search of Ma Janki, Lord Rama, Lakshman, Hanuman and the army of Vanaras reached Rameshwaram and then only the vast expanse of the sea was separating them from the land of Ravan i.e Sri Lanka.

Rama had requested the SEA and asked for a path, a mean to reach Lanka; that connect the Indian land to Lanka. But, it was actually against the rule of nature, against the virtue of sea. So, the sea god advised lord Rama to build a bridge over it, and so it was decided to build a bridge over the Sea.

It was never happened in past and also never is happening in present yug to construct a bridge from one bank to another over sea. So, the task was big and the glory of that would go further from one yug to another.

Big task always wants a blessing of God

Lord Ram wanted to worship god Shiva

So, it was considered necessary to take the blessings of lord Shiva. Lord Rama decided to worship his own god Bhagwan Shiva and seek his blessings to defeat Ravanaa and bring back Sita Mata.

In the Sanathan Dharma tradition, worship is the very first task to perform before any holy task.

All the arrangements were made for the grand Pooja but there was one hurdle came up. The PUJARI.
Everyone was in dilemma, because a perfect priest, who would conduct the Yaga was missing .

Ram wanted the best Pandit for that PUJA.

The chief advisor Vibhishana, concluded that the best person to do this great Yagna was none other than the King Ravana, because he was the most knowledgeable man on the earth and requested Hanuman jee to respectfully invite Ravan to do the Yaghnaa !!

Everyone around were shocked at this invite.

They wondered, how can Ravana accept an invite by an enemy to conduct specifically meant to conquer and destroy him !

Hanuman, being a loyal soldier accept the request and flew to Lanka to request for invitation.

Ravana immediately accepted the invitation, it showed, how he was true to his stature as a renowned scholar and an ardent devotee of Bhagwan Shiv,

He said,

It was considered a pride for any Purohit to be a part of yagna for Lord Shiva

In fact Ravanaa knew that his end was near and so was the fact that they can attain the road to Vaikuntha-Loka with just one more life away.

[The real story begins now]

Dialogue between greatest laureates:

Lord Rama and Ravana

Ravana came to the Yagna site and after inspecting all the arrangements turned to Lord Ramachandra and said

“ O Ayodhya Prince, while all satisfactory arrangements have been done, but sadly no Yagna is complete without the presence of wife. Since you do not have your wife with you, Yagna cannot be conducted”

Lord Rama calmly smiled and said:

“O Great Scholar, We have invited to have a flawless Yagna and since you have identified the flaw, we request you to provide a solution and solve the issue”

The entire assembly of Vanaras, Lakshman, Hanuman and others were filled with curiosity to see Ravana’s reaction

Ravana said:

“O Rama, I have come here as a Scholar and I do not wish to bear the blame for the non-conduct of the Yagna of my beloved Lord Shiva, I shall bring Sita here for the Pooja”

All around were astounded and stood speechless at the remarkable exchange of words of the two.

Ravana brought Sita Mata from Lanka to the Yagna site and conducted the divine Yagna of Lord Shiva.

LET VICTORY BE YOURS-

After the great Pooja, both the divine couple, Lord Ramac and Sita Mata prostrated before the Pandit Ravana. Seeing the both, Ravana smiled and blessed the lovely couple:

“LET VICTORY BE YOURS” !!!!

Ravan knew, the true meaning of his words:–

blessing of self destruction : >>> The values of scholarly dharma surpassed everything.

The final formality of honoring the Purohit remained:

Lord Rama requested Ravana for his Daksheena(fees).

Ravanaa, the king would not take any fees, not even from Sri Ramachandra, as he was always at the giving, and not the receiving end of favors. But again, the Vedic pundit in him came to the fore.
