Delhi Sakshi Murder Case

The defame capital city of India came in light again for killing of a 16 year girl. Sakshi was stabbed over 20 times till intestines’ came out, stoned the head to crushed on the ground and finally kicked to death. All of this happened in public view. More than 15 +people crossed the spot during the heinous crime. None except one was bother to stop him and help the girl in her worst misery. That bloody time being witnessed not only the murder of girl but also the killing of organized humanity.  The passive and inert people walking by the side and not intervening. Why did people not save her?

The whole incident happened in this way:

Sahil kept attacking the girl with a knife on the middle of the road, during this time many people present there, kept watching the incident by becoming mute spectators. No one tried to save the teenager by showing courage. There was so much fire in the young man that even after being stabbed, his heart did not fill. He picked up a big stone and hit the girl one after the other. Later, he kicked her and fled from there.

This incident in Delhi has left us shocked. The teen girl met a horrific death after her unfortunate murder by the hands of a Muslim boy. After hearing about such incidents, we as the general public cannot help but think about what actually goes on in the minds of these people. We already had witnessed many such inhumane incidents but this time, the actual culprit is not that mad Sahil but the witnessing people. In viral video, we can see the small stones and pebbles near the incident using those tiny weapons, people could easily control that weaponized boy. But, the crowd were timid.

  • We are with ill Mentality:

This is not the first such crime where on-lookers have decided not to intervene. Many such cases of gang-rape, lynching, and bullying have been reported across the world.

One such infamous case is the murder of Kitty Genovese in New York City in 1964.A 28-year-old woman was stabbed to death outside her home, but dozens of eyewitnesses refused to step-in.

Post this murder, social psychologists Bibb Latané and John Darley popularised the term “bystander effect.”

Bystander effect means that the person would be discouraged to go and help someone in need if more people are around. As strange as this sounds, it has been in debates for years.

The passive watcher’s gaze has been made worse by access to technology. People often record videos of public violent acts but don’t intervene.
