Why in News ?

Balakot terror has been reactivated by Pakistan very recently. That shows that Balakot has been affected. It had been damaged and destroyed. And that is why people have got away from there and now it has been reactivated. The army chief Rawat confirmed that close to 500 infiltrators are waiting to infiltrate into India.

The revival of the Balakot terror camp comes just a month after India revoked Article 370 that gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcated the state into the union territories of J&K and Ladakh.

Pakistan relaxed restrictions on terrorist groups targeting India after New Delhi’s decision on Article 370.

According to inputs from intelligence agencies, other than J&K Jaish terrorists may also target Gujarat and Maharashtra. Terror groups based in Pakistan are reviving dormant groups like the Al Umnar Mujahideen after being told to use Kashmiri- origin terrorists.

Jaish, the terror group headed by UN designated global terrorist Masood Azhar, has now decided to divert its cadre from the Afghanistan to Jammu and Kashmir.

At the ‘Howdy, Modi!’ mega rally in Houston on Sunday, PM Narendra Modi had hit out at Pakistan and said India’s decision on Article 370 has troubled some people who can’t even handle their own country. With US president Donald Trump in attendance, PM Modi called for a decisive battle against terrorism. “Be it 9/11 in America or 26/11 in Mumbai, where can the conspirators be found?” he said in a jab at Islamabad.

The airspace was opened in July, but Pakistani leaders have in recent weeks given statements on airspace closure following India’s move to scrap special status for Jammu and Kashmir.

Balakot terror attack was?

Balakot JeM camp, bombed in IAF airstrike

Balakot terror attack was conducted by Indian Air force in the early morning of February 26 when Indian warplanes had crossed the Line of Control (LoC) in the Pak occupied region of Kashmir, and dropped tons of bombs in the town of Balakot. On that morning, 12 Mirages having taken off from multiple air bases crossed over into the Pakistani air space and carried out missile attacks on Jaish-e-Mohammed terror camps.

Objective of Strike:

To hit a non-military target to tell terrorist organisations that if they perpetuate terrorist attacks in our country, no matter where they are, whether are in PoK or are in Pakistan proper, IAF will come and get you kill.

‘Operation Bandar’ was IAF’s code name for Balakot airstrike

Pakistan’s military had initially announced the airstrike of February 26 in the same morning and described the Indian planes are dropping their payload in an uninhabited wooded hilltop area near Balakot.

Later India also confirmed the airstrike on same day, characterized it to be a preemptive strike directed against a terrorist training camp which was located in Balakot, and causing the deaths of a “large number” of terrorists in this strike.India responded after the suicide attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama that led to the death of 40 CRPF jawans.

Somewhere deep in the heart of Pakistan,Balakot strike was done, Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave no indication to those who met him hours before the strike that he had taken such a momentous decision. One decision that would push the two countries closest to a war since the stand-off in 2001 after the Pakistan-backed parliament attack.

The next day, February 27, in a tit-for-tat airstrike, Pakistan retaliated,India responded. During the aerial confrontation, Wing Commander Abhinandan brought down a Pakistani F-16 but was taken prisoner near the Line of Control (LoC) by the Pakistan military and being returned on March 1. Pakistan F-16 was much more advanced than India’s Mig-21.

In the name of action and reaction both countries were secretly open to confront each other. Pakistan had decided to restrict access to its airspace, resulting in a loss of 8.5 billion Pakistani rupees. India too had lifted the most favour nation status from Pakistan.
